Swiss Re has hired a 20-year financial veteran to lead strategy for the insurer’s automated underwriting solution, Magnum.
Barbara Scalzi has been named head Magnum Asia, according to a statement, effective July 12.
In her Singapore-based role, she will be responsible for defining the Magnum strategy across the region and drive the development of innovative solutions by leveraging alternative data.
Scalzi has 20 years of experience in the financial sector, including a track record in insurance technology. Prior to joining Swiss Re, she spent three years at fintech platform Underwrite Me as its director of business operations and customer success. Previously she spent 13 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where she held various regional roles in London and Singapore.
Magnum is an automated underwriting solution that enables users to digitally submit information and receive initial policy offerings directly at the point of sale.
The solution is currently being used by more than 60 insurers and reinsurers worldwide, processing over 15 million applications per year.
«The pandemic has brought heightened awareness and drive to accelerate digitalization throughout the industry,» said Russell Higginbotham, CEO Reinsurance Asia at Swiss Re. «Our clients are keen to understand how they can make better use of their data, reduce costs and increase efficiency through automation. Magnum, being our flagship automated underwriting solution, is an important tool to enable this process.»
