Hong Kong’s Well Link Life recently announced the launch of a complimentary COVID-19 protection policy for all taxi drivers in Hong Kong. The policy will provide registered taxi drivers with a cash benefit of up to HK$12,000 ($1,548) if they are receiving treatment for COVID-19.
According to Well Link Life CEO Thomas Lee the benefit will ease the financial burden of taxi drivers so that they can focus on recuperation and recovery without worrying about their livelihoods.
“Taxi drivers come in contact with numerous people every day. They put themselves at risk by providing people in Hong Kong with an essential service. We understand they may worry about losing their source of income if they are unfortunately diagnosed with COVID-19,” he said.
Starting from 7 December, all taxi drivers with valid taxi driver identity plates can register for the COVID-19 protection policy. Those who have successfully registered can receive a maximum cash benefit of HK$600 per day for up to 20 days during treatment if they are diagnosed with COVID-19 in Hong Kong.
The coverage period lasts from the date of successful registration until 31 March 2021.
