New claims data from State Insurance, which is part of IAG, reveal that 42% of car collisions happen around school pick-up time.
The statistics show that one of the most common times for a collision is between 1pm – 5pm in the afternoon, with the peak of collisions occurring between 3pm and 4pm.

Mr Dean MacGregor, IAG’s executive general manager – Claims, said with motor vehicle collisions peaking during school pick-up time, it’s a timely reminder of the importance of paying attention behind the wheel and sticking to the road rules when in school zones to help avoid an accident.

The data show the following incidence rates, with the figures based on five years of claims data from 2016 to 2020:
