Reasuransi Indonesia Utama (Indonesia Re) CEO Frans Y Sahusilawane has passed away at the age of 67 on 21 January in Jakarta. He had played an influential role in the development of insurance and reinsurance in Indonesia.
The ASEAN Insurance Council informed the industry of the unfortunate news via a Twitter post.
Dr Sahusilawane had served as chairman of ASEAN Natural Disaster Research Works Sharing (ANDREWS) Committee from 2007 to 2014. He also headed the Indonesia General Insurance Association (AAUI) from 2002-2008.
He has started his career at PT Reasuransi Umum Indonesia from 1975-1993 and moved on to help form ReIndo in 1994.
He had been CEO of Indonesia Re since its formation in October 2014. Prior to that, he was influential in the formation of earthquake reinsurer MAIPARK in 2003 and served as its CEO from 2008-2014.
He was awarded the Chartered Insurance Institute qualification in 1987. He also holds an MBA from De Monfort University, UK and a doctorate in management from the University of Indonesia.
