Close to 700 delegates from 20 countries have registered for the 14th India Virtual Rendezvous to be held online for the very first time on 20-22 January.
The annual event, jointly organised by Asia Insurance Review and GIC Re, will once again provide a platform for insurers and reinsurers as well as intermediaries to come together to take stock of the state of the Indian insurance market and the world of reinsurance in India in the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The last 10 months of the COVID-19 pandemic have transformed the insurance sector across the globe, especially in the Asian markets. The Rendezvous will strive to absorb this experience to strategise on how to boost awareness about insurance and bridge the wide protection gap in these markets in the new normal. The pandemic has made it amply clear that there is a lot that the industry can do to not only enhance protection covers but also to stand up as a very important component of a wider economic and social system that should evolve to tackle rising catastrophic events and pandemics.

The theme of the event this year is: “Going for Gold”, which highlights the need for the industry to surmount the negativity of the pandemic and rise to the occasion with a positive spirit.

Under the current circumstances, the event will be held on a virtual platform and will try to embody and mirror as close an experience to a live event as possible. Local Indian companies will continue to have the opportunity to network via their ‘tables’ on the virtual platform.

The India Rendezvous, launched in 2008, has over the years evolved as the flagship event for the Indian insurance market and is also a thought-leadership platform with several global CEOs sharing their insights. Over the years the event has received support from IIS, UNCTAD, The Geneva Association and FAIR. The Rendezvous this year will also touch upon the good old basics of reinsurance, climate change and the insurers’ dynamics needed to cope with working from home and the rising gig economy.
